Continuing Education courses, also called Industry and Business Training, and Community Education can help more than a degree because you can learn specific job skills rather than theory, and you are more likely to meet people in the industry with whom you can network.

I'm overqualitified for many jobs too, and fell into the work that I do when I left public school teaching. I had an M.Ed. but no job skills. So I've taken some programming and web design classes over the years to put my BS in English (how appropriate) and my teaching experience to use.

Another alternative is to work temp to get the experience if youc an get work in your industry, and if you are lucky, you can talk your way into your boss's job when s/he leaves, as one of my friends did after losing several positions due to plant closings and outsourcing.

Giving thanks is not just for one day, is it? I have much in my life, but often I am too foolish, stubborn, depressed, moody, etc., to see and know my blessings from day to day.

Thanks for what one has can be an antidote to the above. Cheers, mjt
